One of the newest items of interest in obstetrics is umbilical
cord blood retrieval at the birth of a child. Cord blood stem cells,
found in your baby’s umbilical cord blood, can be used to treat a
host of serious illnesses for mothers, babies and possibly family
members. Deciding what to do with the cord blood can now be
one of the toughest decisions a family may have to make at the
time of birth. Choices range from public donations, to family cord
blood banking, or simply just throwing it away. The costs
involved in cord blood banking can be quite the decision maker
also, up to $1,500 at the time of collection with annual fees close
to $100. There are exceptions, if you meet the eligibility
requirements.
Cord Blood can be a lifesaver so take the time to research all
of your options.
