Leukemia is the cancer of blood corpuscles (cells). In human blood there are three types of blood cells: leukocytes (white blood cells), erythrocytes (red blood cells), thrombocytes (blood platelets).
When leukemia happens, one the blood cells count (mostly white blood cell) increases dramatically. When observed under the microscope these abnormal cells look different. In this scenario the body continues to produce these abnormal cells, resulting in little space of healthy cells. This severe imbalance causes the symptoms of leukemia.
What causes leukemia?
As of yet, there are no factors which can be pinpointed that cause leukemia. However it is known that exposure to high-energy radiation, like that released from nuclear explosion increases the likelihood of developing leukemia. It is also known that Down’s syndrome increases the chances of developing leukemia.
