Lymphoma is a general term for a group of cancers that originate in the lymphatic system. The lymphomas are divided into two major categories: Hodgkin lymphoma and all other lymphomas, called non-Hodgkin lymphomas. Lymphomas are cancers that begin by the malignant transformation of a lymphocyte in the lymphatic system. The annual incidence of lymphoma has nearly doubled over the last 35 years. People infected with the HIV virus have a much higher risk of developing lymphoma. There are many things that could be associated with lymphoma. It is a theory that people in farming communities, and people involved with woodworking are at higher risk, but this has not been confirmed. The prognosis and treatment options depended upon the time of lymphoma, the stage that the patient is in, and the general health of the patient.
