Masters Degree

Topics covered in this article: Master degree, master's degree, masters programs, masters degrees, masters degree

A master degree in your chosen field is almost a have-to-have degree these days to remain competitive. Many jobs and teaching positions that used to be content with a bachelors degree are now requiring a master’s degree. Masters programs or masters degrees can seem like so much work and that they will take too much time to complete but a masters degree can be earned in less than a year if you have any credits to be transferred or in a year and a term without. Typically people finish them within two years. Time well spent when you remain a viable choice when applying for a new job or promotion.

For an example of how a masters degree can be very attractive is described below in an employment offering taken from http://www.sandia.gov/employment/employment/.

How would you like to get your Masters Degree, have it paid for, get paid while you’re at school, and be guaranteed full-time employment upon completion? Sounds too good to be true, doesn’t it? Not at Sandia National Laboratories! We will actually send you to one of the Nation’s top schools and pay your way.

Sandia’s One-Year-on-Campus (OYOC) program provides an opportunity for minorities with a bachelor-level degree to receive a Master of Science degree. Qualified individuals are hired at Sandia as full-time regular employees. They are then required to return to school in a full-time capacity and complete a Masters degree within one year. Upon successful completion of the OYOC Program, participants will return to Sandia as full-time members of the technical staff and must remain for one year following completion of the degree program or reimburse Sandia for the cost of the program.

OYOC candidates will be determined through a selection process from a pool of applicants who have been interviewed and sponsored by Sandia organizations with openings in the area of the candidates’ training and interests. Participants receive a competitive salary while working at Sandia full-time and a stipend while attending school. Sandia pays for one campus visit, relocation to and from the university, and tuition.

This is only a sample of the opportunities that await you and the resources available to pay for school.
